Social Networking Sites

Like blogs, networking sites also have templates that your fans can easily navigate for updates, downloads, and news.

Networking sites were created for social networking and are very useful for marketing, promotions and even sales.

One of the biggest networking sites is myspace.com, which is also often used by indie musicians to sell their music.

But there are others too.

MySpace

In the absence of radio play, garage bands all across America are establishing a presence on MySpace, a social-networking site popular with young adults.

According to MySpace, artists of every kind -- from unsigned amateurs to international rock stars -- are using MySpace as a way to market themselves and build a fan base.

Artists are using the site to build massive social networks and spread the word about upcoming shows and CD releases.

Another not to miss band music promotion site is YouTube.

Social Media sites like YouTube have a greater percentage of people who listen to new music than most ways that you can promote your site online. A cool Band video, with your music in it, is a great promotional tool.

Music videos can be a compilation of live shows, tour bus footage or band rehearsals.

The idependent musicians that I like and wind up buying their cds are the ones who interact with their fans on these social media sites. Trust me, no one likes spam, no matter how good your music is, it will put people off. If you just take the time to interact and talk with people in other ways besides coming across like a desperate sales person, you will have more luck. Also, involve your fans by finding the ones who will make youtube videos for you. Maybe hold a contest for whoever makes the best one. Alot of people who like to make videos are getting their videos torn down because they are using music that belongs to big companies.
